How To Select an Above Ground Pool Winter Cover

Start with purchasing the correct size Above ground pool cover, to winterize your swimming pool. Here a few tips that will help you find the right size.

Measure the pool width and length. Make sure to include the top seats when measuring. Most pools have wide top rails that need to be taken into account. Covers are sold in nominal sizes of the interior pool width. For example, 24′ 27′ 28′ … and have an overlap to that width of 3′ or 4′ making them larger to fit over top seats.

You will need a Above ground pool cover size that is greater than the length and width, or diameter, for round pools of your pool. So, for a 15’x30’pool, you will need a cover that is at least 18′ wide and 33′ long. For a 24’round pool, you’ll need a cover size 27′ or 28′ in diameter.

When selecting a cover 2 sizes will usually be presented, the pool size and cover size after adding the overlap. If you have a 24′ round pool, the cover size will be 27′ to 28’round.

Remember to winterize a pool most will drop the water level. The overlap of pool covers will allow enough material to make up for a water level that is up to 12″ lower. If you do not want to lower water level every year you can install a Lid’l Seal or Aquador skimmer cover.
